A rather liquid encounter with a Marsala tasting emporium has resulted in me being the proud owner of a couple of litre bottles of (very good) Marsala.

I fly back soon from Sicily and (given the current bonkers restrictions on carrying liquids in the cabin) seem to have three options ...

1. Drink the lot here (which will probably mean I miss the plane)

2. Have a gentle aperitif and bin the residue (yeah right - like that's going to happen)

3. Pack the bottles carefully in my main 'hold luggage' suitcase - well wrapped in used undercrackers and socks - and hope it survives the flight.

Have people tried packing bottles of booze - are they likely to survive ??

Hi S-D,
Whenever I come back from Italy, I bring back wine, olive oil, balsamic etc and pack them in my suitcase. I wrap them in clothes and plastic bags and I have never had a breakage.

Good luck! xxx
yes dave, stuffed in socks is the way forward, then rewrapped in tshirts.

how's the bites coming on?
Yes, all the time - wrap them well in towels and a carrier bag, in the centre of the suitcase. No damage so far!
Yes, no problem. Ideally you'd have one of those tubes that bottles of whisky get sold in at the airport. Failing that, wrap in bubble wrap, newspaper and soft clothing or towels.

Make sure that the bottles are right in the centre of your suitcase, not near an edge.
With both hard Samsonite and soft bags I have succesfully brought bottles back.

I have wrapped them well in carrier bags, towels, dirty (unstainable) clothes to mitigate the disaster that is for sure to one day unravel.

Hard cases are a very safe bet though.

So are you hard or soft?
oooo-er!

I am extremely hard eccles ... :+)
Yes loads of times. Well wrapped with clothes and buried in the middle of your suitcase should be ok.
Always and never had a problem. As said put in plastic bag just in case and wrap well in the middle of clothes, towels etc. Don't throw it away!!

Got to be worth a try then - you lot are for it if my Agent Provocateur man-thongs get ruined ...
Option3, I'll be there to get them sorry you home safely
Boys and girls.....hard or soft luggage.....really....EC walks off shaking head....

You'd have loved the Marsala tasting EC - I was actually on the waterfront in Marsala.

Loads of varieties we just don't get over here, including a semisecco which knocks spots off any but the absolute best amontillado sherries.
Sib. He's wearing man thongs and you're still going to be there?
dave, you can go off people you know..

how's the bites? :)
As long as clean thongs are wrapped round the bottles, gness
Question Author
Bloody horrible sloopy - great itching things all over arms and hands :+(
Holy Mother Sib!!!! They're litre bottles! Just how big are Dave's thongs?
You caught my Sicilian eye
But you wouldn't play your part
In your luggage you broke some glass
Then you decided to break my heart

Why does it always happen this way?
Everytime our eyes meet
You seem to walk away
Walk away
England is Far away

Breakin' bottles
Breakin' hearts
Pourin' dreams
When will Marsala love start?

Parting is upon us
Sicily - will the memory last?
Was that the glass, the one?
Or just another moment that passed?

Breakin' bottles
Breakin' hearts
Pourin' dreams
When will Marsala love start?

To suffer the pain of togetherness
Or the liberation of being a Sicilian muse
It's not for me to say
I'll leave that for you, sunnydave, to choose

Living as the dream
Living as the mystery
Living as the fantasy
Living as the hope

Breakin' bottles
Breakin' hearts
Pourin' dreams
When will the love of Marsala start?
I tried asking this morning but the phone lost signal on the bus :(

I suffer horrible reactions , my ear did a couple of roundsd with the Mike Tyson of the mozzie world in the summer -I looked like Plug from the Bash St Kids for days. Ice cubes, tea tree oil and one of those little localised electric shock machines you get at chemists/travel help loads.

And do not scratch xx
