Would appreciate a swift answer to this please.
Are we in the UK now allowed to carry extra camera memory cards when flying to the Middle East?
I was stopped a few years ago and told I had to post home my card which virtually cost an arm and a leg!

not what you asked, but this forum suggests you take a netbook and download the photos to that - would that help? http://www.fodors.com/community/africa-the-middle-east/how-many-memory-cards-to-bring.cfm
Where do you mean by Middle East - UAE, Saudi, Lebanon etc? I must admit, that`s a new one on me. I`ve never heard of that.
nobody in the Middle East has ever shown any interest in my memory cards, but as 237SJ says it may depend where you are; I haven't been to the more hardline places.

It's a resort in Egypt- Sharh-Al-Sheik.....I wasn't going there the last time I was stopped, so don't see any relevance there...
Sharm-el-Sheik's a tourist airport, I wouldn't expect too much trouble there. Not like you are going to e.g. Jeddah.
Considering camera memory cards are sold in the duty free on board aircraft (with no restriction on routes) I can`t see a problem.

Thanks Boxtops....I already have a Dropbox account, although files can be rather on the large side to upload from an unknown connection....
Fifteen years ago when I was in Saudi, I came back with about fifteen rolls of film - nobody said a word then, and that was flying through Jeddah.

237SJ - on my first occasion I had to go back to the airport shops and buy a pack of envelopes and a stamp to post my one extra card home- then go through the departure lounge and buy a new memory card to replace it!!
This was in Glasgow Airport....
Confused now, so it`s nothing to do with arrivals into the Middle East then?

Nope! - this was my outbound trip to Crete I think....
There is no CAA requirement that says you can`t carry extra camera memory cards onto an aircraft in this country (or worldwide for that matter). You must have encountered a Jobsworth.
I am keen photographer and I carry about 3 to 4 cards with me every time I travel. I have never been asked about it. And I have travelled to almost every country in the middle east.

We are just back from Egypt and this time I had no problem whatsoever with cards I kept in my camera bag- carried on the flights as hand luggage.
Perhaps there is only an issue if you carry any in your pocket....
