Anybody else watch this programme today?

The couple were from York, and the husband and both children wanted to move to Australia but she voted against it as she liked her house back home. It's in a nice part of York but nothing special and they would have been over £800 a month better off in Australia.

I couldn't believe how selfish the woman was..............

No he was an electrical engineer who was worried about job safety in the UK, she was a call centre manager. They were £800 a month better off without her having a job.............

does she have family, as that is usually a stumbling block for many. Leaving mums and dads, sisters and brothers is a wrench, it's also why some come home, because they are homesick, and miss the family.

And paying for private education in Oz..............

But surely you have to back your husband, and think of what's best for your children?

no you don't, it's got to be a family decision, that means both of you,

Yes, I watched it, can't understand why someone would want to stay here tbh. I know she had her reasons, but it wasn't a family decision to stay in UK was it, it was hers, it was 3 to 1 against staying here. In the event that her husband is made redundant she may change her mind.

but it has to be a joint decision, if she wasn't happy with moving, then surely she has the right to say so. If they were to go and she is unhappy living there, can't settle, doesn't like it, then in all likelihood either she or the family will come back. How old were the children by the way..

It's a big step

when i was leaving Australia (after living there for 18mths) a number of people confided in me how miserable they had been there, in some cases for 20 years or more, but had stuck it out for family.

It's no way to spend your life.

Was it to show that they were comfortably off ?

I just hope she doesn't regret her decision. She said she was open-minded when she went there but I don't think so, to me she appeared selfish.

I thought the kids sounded quite ' intelligent ' , when they spoke ,given their ages .

lol Mick, when I was married to the first Mr Craft he was offered a very good job in Melbourne and I was up for it. He eventually changed his mind due to great pressure from his mother, I'd have gone like a shot, to at least give it a try.

Ever noticed how very few of the family and friends that are interviewed are anything but very selfish over the family that are considering emigrating.

Our youngest daughter is considering teaching in Oz. Of course we'll miss her, but there is Skype, and it's only 24 hours away. It's her life, we've had ours, she should do what SHE wants to do.

but craft that is you, she didn't want to. And zeuhl is right, i have known a number of people who didn't like it, couldn't settle and returned home. The biggest problem is family, ageing parents, siblings you don't see, as well as grandchildren, it's often the deal breaker.

I think the thing that swung it for me was the worries he had about his job here. Their house is quite nice, but nothing special (they live 3 doors down from one of my mates)

plenty of people worrying over jobs, they don't necessarily think of emigrating, just look for other work here. You said that she works so they can't be that badly off...
