Wandered in for a day about 40 odd years ago. Seemed alright at the time.
I had a works Christmas party there a few years ago. It is what it is.
Run down chalets, and lots of 'entertainment'. There's a large fun fair next to it, and the beach is literally across the road.

If you go a bit further South, there's a Butlins in Minehead which I would say is the better of the two.

I stayed at Butlins in Minehead about 45 years ago - I am sure they used to be barracks :-)
PS have a look at the related post at the bottom of this page, interesting suggestions there too!
Our nieghbours went last year, they said it was good for the kids but accomodation was very basic and none too clean.
If you really have your heart set on Brean then there are lots of camping sites there. I honestly think you'd be better doing that :-)
Haven't stayed there but apart from the swimming pool thing and (not cheap - dont know if guests get a discount) funfair that's it. Lots of pubs doing full English, bookies, arcades, etc. You would have to drive to get to a supermarket. Went there once on purpose (didn't like it) and managed to go there a second time when someone recommended it (and called it something differnet), just for the day each time but that was enough.
Spent half my hols there as a kid ss we lived close by. Went back a few years ago. Wont be going back again!

You obviously have not been to Butlins for a while, they are now much more upmarket with some excellent accomodation and quality food choices.

New hotel on the Butlins Bognor Regis site

Thing I don't like about Butlins lately is the fact that once you are there everything seems to be extra whereas you used to pay for the holiday and then most activities were free so can work out very expensive. Back to question not stayed at Pontins there but Burnham on Sea has a big Haven holiday camp which is only short distance from Brean Sands also Burnham on Sea is a nice little place to walk round.
If it was me staying in Brean I think I'd choose Unity Farm over Pontins, it's just up the road. Having lived in Berrow and Brean as a kid I always thought Unity was a nicer place to stay. It's also right next to the fun fair.
By the sound of it Pontins hasn't changed much since I was a kid.
Stayed in a nearby site a while back (not pomtins) did not like the entire area. It all seemed run down although the beaches were nice
To be honest, I didn't even think Pontins was still running! lol
As above, stay somewhere else. With regards to the Burnham suggestion above. Seriously? I couldn't think of anywhere more depressing.

If you're after something like what Pontins offer (entertainment, fun fairs etc) then I would go with the suggestion of Holiday Resort Unity.

As mentioned above, it's right next to the fun fair and close to the beach.

Or, why not travel 15 minutes down the road and stay just outside of Weston-super-Mare. http://www.purnholidaypark.co.uk/ still has the entertainment and swimming pool (indoor only) but is a good base to spend the days in Weston... which is much better than Brean (in my opinion).
It's recently undergone a massive redevelopment, and The Pier is great fun for the kids http://www.grandpier.co.uk/

Either way, I would stay clear of Pontins :-)

Yes, Purn is quite nice, and next door to what used to be my local.
The curry cottage. Haven't been there for years. Actually, I'm sure I read something recently about it being shut down for a while due to health and safety :-/
I was thinking of the Anchor Inn, not sure if The Curry Cottage is still open or not, I'll have a look on the way home.
Sorry to go off topic Chiara!
Lol. I was just thinking "you go for that many currys?" I can't for the life of me picture where The Anchor is.
Oh, and it's not off-topic, as we're advising chiara on places to go... or avoid! :)
Yeah, I'm sure I read in The Mercury that The Curry Cottage had shut down. May have just been temporary though.
Look on Trip Advisor and then brace yourself!

Thanks all. Think I'll give it a miss. Going to have a look at all your other suggestions instead.
