1. Finally get the badges sorted out. (Lots of people have the '10 year' badge, for example, despite having been members for a far shorter time).
2. Ensure that there's at least one badge available for each of AB's sections. (I want an 'Armchair Traveller' badge please, for people like Dzug2 and Mushroom25 who specialise in the 'Travel' section - as well as for me!).
3. Prevent people being able to award themselves 'best answers'.
4. Get the 'Best' tabs, in people's profiles working again. (They've not updated for 3 months now).
5. Get rid of the annoying feature whereby a page automatically scrolls down to show the answer I've just posted at the top of my screen; it means that I then have to scroll up to see if anyone has posted while I was typing.
6. Make the default view, when clicking on 'My Profile', go to 'Threads involving me', instead of to 'My Q's'; that way I can see everything I'm involved in and then filter them down to just questions or just answers if I want to.
7. If it's not already been done, introduce 'Captcha' on the registration page to stop the regular late-night automated spammer from getting onto this site.
8. Consider whether 'Related questions' is actually benefiting anyone. As far as I can see, all it's doing is making it harder for potential new members to find relevant pages via Google.
9. Consider giving posts in 'Jokes' the same status as those in 'Chatterbank'. i.e. retain the Jokes section but with posts only showing up in 'Latest posts' and not on AB's front page. (Sometimes nearly every 'question' on the front page is a joke; that could discourage potential new members from joining the site to ask serious questions).
10. Re-instate the idea of inviting members to submit articles (such as the one Dot contributed on tracing family histories) but actually put them where they can easily be found!
11. Provide all of AB's moderators with company cars and luxury holidays.
(Oops! How did that sneak in there?)
;-)
1. Not bothered.
2, Ditto.
3. Done.
4. Mine have never worked.
5. I'd prefer to go to last answer but there you go.
6. Agreed.
7. No! Captcha is a bigger pain in the arse than any spammer.
8. I like related qs.
9. Agreed.
10. Never saw this. Nice idea.
11. Yeah yeah whatever :p
Make it Mandatory for folk to say Thank You when other folk have spent a lot of brain power to give an answer on Q&P. (it really gets my goat). I do know this isn't possible...but I wish it could be.
Hi mojo- I think the capcha suggestion only refers to the new member who used to sign up every night as a new user to post 20 spam posts in a minute plus some the other one-off spammers and posters of irrelevant questions about Indian Tax forms or spam asking 'what is SEO?'. But I would agree that capcha codes may deter genuine new members so I think i agree with you
For clarification folks:
I'm most definitely only suggesting that Captcha should be used for joining AB, NOT when logging on thereafter.
I've banned the same late-night spammer (using a different randomly-generated username every night) several dozen times, and I'm getting fed up of doing it!
F-F:
I've not seen those posts recently either; that's why I wasn't sure whether AB had already brought in 'Captcha' or something similar. However I seem to remember that those posts would go on for several weeks, take a break and then return, so we might not have seen the end of them yet.
Don't the spammers afford the mods the power-tripping feelings & extreme pleasure associated with
zapping posts without picking on random, innocent posters.
I agree with Chris too, especially the related questions, I'm fed up of scrolling down then having to scroll back up to see the last entry of the thread.
