Does the counter-signatory 'professional' have to be currently in employment? Thanks.

Thanks. I signed some last year with no problems but have received a letter today asking for my employer & qualification details for a form I recently counter-signed.. Will just assume that it is a random check.
I'm retired ..... and I've counter-signed hundreds. ;o)
I've counter-signed passport applications both while teaching and afterwards.

Ok, will go with the whole random check thing then (never had one before, did get one sent back because I signed outside of the box though).
no they can be retired
At least the passport forms give you some indication of who can sign. I've posted my application for my teaching pension today ('cos I'll be 60 next month) which had an 'attestation' to be signed by an 'independent third party' but without the slightest indication of who was qualified to do the job! (I played safe and paid a fiver for a solicitor to do it).
you don't think taking the fiver makes him dependent, Chris...
