transportation for a baby in a car when you get of th e plane

I AM GOING AWAY WITH A young baby, can you take your own car seat on to the plane, so that we can use it for the taxi when we get the other end. Or is there an easier way of having a baby in a taxi without taking the car seat.

You could take it as luggage, but you won't be able to take it to the seat with you.  You'll get a baby-harness and have to sit with him/her in your lap. I use a taxi company that keeps the seat while we were away and returnes with it to pick us up. Worth asking if any local firms do this.

As Chillum says, you won't be able to take it on the plane.

When my son was a toddler, we flew abroad and were hiring a car so I wanted to take his car seat (didn't want to pay the extra to hire one plus you never know how good the hired ones are going to be!)  I took it as checked-in baggage and wrapped it up in black bin liners and heavy duty tape.  If you do that, put in couple of spare bags to use on the way home as you will have burst open the original ones!  (Pack some tape as well!)

I also packed some beach towels in the seat as well to free up some space in the case - it's not easy to travel light with a wee one!
