I have recently moved into a property with a lovely garden, and I want to get myself two kittens. I was originally going to get Silver Tabby's but looking around they are coming out at around 500.00 each and quite frankly at that price, I wouldn't want to let them anywhere near my garden for fear they might disappear! Therefore I am looking to pay a reasonable price for 2 kittens from a 'good home' that have been litter trained and de-wormed, preferably male, but would take a brother and sister. Does anyone know anywhere I can buy, or anyone I can buy from. They would be going to a very loving, caring home. I don't want to 'Rescue' or 'Adopt' as its a bit of third degree situation. Perhaps someone knows a Centre somewhere that has a quantity of kittens, or a friend, neighbour or relative that has some, or is expecting some soon? I live in the Twickenham area but would be willing to travel a sensible distance.
I doubt that anyone here knows someone near to you who has kittens. If you want pedigree you are going to have to pay a lot of money. If you just want moggies then I see no reason why you can't go to a rescue centre for them (not RSPCA).
Get in touch with your local vet and also Cats Protection. Look in your local paper. As said in previous post, if you want pedigree then they will be pricey. Why would it be a third degree situation to get them from a rescue centre. They would still be kittens and you would have a lot of love to give them and they would return the same affection.
I was looking at getting a rescue cat recently as company for the cat I already have. Called round all the local rescue centres and not one of them would even consider me because I have a full time job.
I you're on Facebook look for pet groups located in your area. There are a few round here and they're pretty much all just people looking to rehome unexpected kittens and puppies, etc.
What do you meen by a third degree situation, one of my cats was in its last 3 hours from beeing put to sleep due to over crowding, she has now had 5 extra years, please do not give up on the idea of getting 2 rescued cats together, go have a look at your local rescue centers. Everywhere is full and cats are being destroyed day by day,
Yep, rescue centre or local cats protection league. £500 for a tabby is really expensive. They do check your home, but quite right too, when you hear some of the horror stories. At least you will know that the kitten is healthy and has had its initial jabs, and probably microchipped too. well worth it. Take a trip across London and go to Battersea - they are overflowing, they'd be delighted to see you.
We adopted two rescue cats in January, the rescue centre didn't do a home check, they just asked about the type of home we live in and our experience with cats. It was not some dodgy rescue centre either, they have the best cat pens I have ever seen, all cats have their own TV and radio and every pen has indoor and outdoor access with heating indoors.

I know it is too far for you to travel but there must be places like this all over the south.
I fully agree that rescue seems the moral way to go but having just been through it, as Evian said, the home visit and restrictions such as 'must be the only cat', 'must not be left alone' and at the end of the day it was never really yours put me right off.
It is possible to get kittens before they need rescuing.
Most people can't seem to give them away, mainly as a result of being too mean to get them spayed.
Daffy 654 - No - I said I no longer want to go the Pedigree route, due to the costs as given in my original question. Also with Silver Tabby's they are VERY prone to being pinched and therefore you are unable to let them out - which I think is cruel. There is a lot of red tape with adoption/fostering and they say they can come and check up on them if they want to. I would never feel like they were mine. Thanks to everyone and I will trot over to Battersea to have a look. No I don't think I fancy travelling 150 miles to South Shropshire! But thanks for the suggestions - However, if anyone hears of some in the next few days/weeks, do let me know on here won't you all? Thanks again.
My daughter and family found a lovely 2 year old female cat at the weekend at Battersea, the cat had been neutered , vaccinated and microchipped.etc. Plenty of cats of all ages there needing homes.
Thanks Lilia - I will give them a call before I go as I believe they also have branches outside of London so it may be worthwhile checking where the 'kittens' are. I can't wait! Still everyone, if you hear of any DO let me know. Thanks again all of you. I love Answerbank!
