If i am travelling abroad, and my passport runs out one month from the date i return, is it still valid?

Think it depends where you are travelling to Specialk, I know that for some countries USA being one, that you need to have at least 6 months left on it!
We just came back from Tenerife and the kids passports ran out 3 days after we came back - no problems, though but you can check out where you are going on-line.

This site gives the advice, and confirms what libertie says.  The requirement of many countries is that you must leave when your passport still has 6 months to run.  You will not be prevented from entering your own country.  The embassy or national travel office of  the country you are visiting will tell you whether there will be any problems.
