Try John Lewis.

Thanks, mikey. I'll have a look at the website.
Can you recommend it? Have you been there for Afternoon Tea ?
BHS is a good fall-back.. not v elegant though!
Its been a long time since I was in the Oxford Street John Lewis but every branch I have ever been in has been very nice and very elegant. If you want to be super-posh, try the Ritz. Terribly expensive. Also there is always good old Fortnums in Piccadilly. Again expensive but about as elegant as it is possible to be.

I suspect you may have to make reservations at the Ritz and Fortnams. We don't need terribly elegant, we just need somewhere nice where we can have a chinwag for a couple of hours. Thank you both for your suggestions. John Lewis or BHS.
The Royal Garden Hotel on the High St in Kensington is nice- we have been there without a reservation but I'd check if I were you, and it's not exactly Oxford Street but it's only about £30 each so not Claridges prices either.

Thank you, Sharingan. We are meeting in Liberty's, that's why I'm asking about Oxford Street. I'll have a look at The Royal Garden Hotel.
