We are thinking of visiting the above in northern France and Belgium. Would like to include a visit to the Thriepval memorial. any suggestions as to where to stay pse??

Why not take Eurostar to Lille (which is stunningly beautiful) and then hire a car?
You could stay in Lille itself or, if you want somewhere really close to the village of Thiepval, Amiens (which is also beautiful) would seem to be the obvious choice.
