For lots of wildlife and stuff go to Taman Negara. It's a national park in the midlands. It's really excellent there. There's a treetop walk 45m in the air just a rope bridge. I'm not sure if there's elephants but you can do serious hikes into the jungle which I didn't do. Also give a few days to the Perhentian Islands, they are amazing and not as expensive as people think. And you've gotta give Kuala Lumpur a look! I did all this in less than 2 weeks so you'll have loads of time.

Ps. I hear that the Cameron Highlands are great too.

Enjoy.

Errrmm... not sure about elephants but yeah, try Taman Negara. I wouldn't suggest islands on east coast of Malaysia in September due to monsoon rain, though I must say they are absolutely gorgeous between Mar and June/July. The thing is you'll need to take a boat into these islands so I don't think it's advisable.

You might want to try the local dishes. You will be spoilt for choice!

To be honest, there's loads to do and see. Let us know when you decide where exactly you're going. P/S: My husband and I were just there for a month in January.
