Transfering Money Over To America

I need to send over £5k to a friend in America. Would bank transfer be cheaper or Western Union? I need to find out so I can deduct the transfer fee from the £5k.

How do I go about doing this? Can this be done online?

I think there are several companies that can do this for you.
The one I have used is CaxtonFX . It was fine.
You have to set up an account with them which can take a few days, but once it is up and running you can send money all over the world at a good exchange rate ...as long as you have bank details for the recipient.

I use HiFX to send money to France on a semi-regular basis and they are very good.
Setting up the account took about 20 mins online and each transaction takes about 5 mins.
