Okay, I know it's not a charity... You know how utterly brilliant John Cleese is? And how much joy he has given to the world? And how much money his ex-wife has taken him for? He is currently having to do world tours (at the age of 74), be in dreadful and humiliating adverts, do voice overs etc to raise money to simply pay his ex-wife. Here's the details: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2401209/John-Cleese-Humiliating-foreign-adverts-comic-genius-making-12-million-divorce.html
He is having to pay his ex-wife £612,000 every year until 2016. I want to start up a 'Just Giving' page (or similar) so that people can donate a tiny amount so he can focus on decent work/writing or just retire. I know he's not BADLY off compared with most of us, but I just hate to see him like this. He is a comedy genius, who, sadly made some marital errors, but can't we all pull together and pay off his ex-wife?!

No, I am serious!! But I don't expect anyone to agree with me really. Just thought I'd ask for opinions....
Sadly no-one helped me when I had to buy the second Mr Craft out of my own house..............

'' made some marital errors '' who didn't ? :)

You have got to be joking!

Are we not all responsible for our own destiny?
My mate bought Cleese's big house in Holland Park after one of JC's divorces

It was particularly poignant because Mr Cleese moved into the smaller place next door
I am fearful of my winter fuel bills, I am afraid if Mr Cleese has been profligate with his finances, he will have to sort himself out.
Lol...

I have kids to pay for and bills to pay.

Poor John Cleese. Should have learnt from the first mistake!!
least he can do voice overs etc and probably be paid a nice sum to do so. i doubt he's on the breadline

and no, i won;t be contributing
However much Mr Cleese is worth, he will still be worth more than my youngest daughter who changes babies' nappies in a nursery for minimum wages - if i have any spare money, i think the call on it is rather closer to home.
So Scarlet, let's see if I get this right.
I have an affair and my wife finds out. We divorce and she gets a large part of my savings and income.
I'm far from being broke, yet you will help finance my extra-marital affairs because I've made you laugh in the past.
If that's correct, you are making me laugh in the present. LOL
I won't pay, but I'm happy to marry (and divorce) him?
Even if people did donate to a justgiving page, I doubt the money raised would be of any significant amount to meet his needs. I'm sure he is doing OK for income and if he gets paid for speaking then, even for a 74 year old, that's not the worst thing in the world. He will surely have enough hours in the day to focus on decent work outside of the 20 minutes or so he's doing voiceovers. But to answer your question, no way would I donate, he's not in any need of the money. I think if you have some time to put into helping somebody there are much more deserving causes that you could focus on
Have you recently suffered a bang on the head?
Gawd blimey, Scarlett while I like John Cleese very much, no way would I contribute for his financial gain !
Scarlett, much as we love this national treasure, what's the worst that could happen to him if him and his legal team simply said 'we got no more cash'.
Debtors prisons don't exist any more.
This has to be a wind-up. I can't believe anyone would be so silly to give any money to someone in his position. Would he give any to me, or you?
I had the misfortune to spend a day with this man many years ago. Obnoxious, rude, arrogant man.
