Any of you been there? I had this idea that it would be like Benidorm but I've been told it definitely isn't. We're going next May and we'll be hiring a car. I'd love to hear some comments from ABers who have been. Thank you.

Can't wait.
Malaga itself is a lovely city, when we were there last there was a Picasso exhibition on. Some lovely restaurants. Watch out for pickpockets - my purse was lifted from a zipped handbag at the bus station :-(
Make sure to see the Alcazabar (in Chris' link) and the cathedral.

Depending on where you are staying, the bus station near the port is the best one for getting about along the coast. Anywhere along the coast past Torremolinos is nice (touristy, but nice!) then further afield is Puerto Banus and Gibraltar). You can get everywhere on public transport.
where are you staying, horseshoes?

Minstrals, what do you mean?
Ahem, unless you mean the Greek "Malakas" which is something different altogether, and doesn't sound at all the same....
Is Malaga a dirty Greek word?
Or should I say is the Greek for Malaga a dirty word? No offence to Greeks. :)
No gran, but the word I've mentioned is an unflattering word in Greek..... I think we are digressing rather radically from the OP!

Only you would know that, minstrals - my Greek is limited to "baklava" :-)

Hi again, thanks for your answers (and for making me chuckle). I'm not sure where we are staying; our friends are booking, but as soon as I know, I'll come back to tell you.

You can catch an open top tour bus. Hop of at any stop you fancy. Then catch the next one along and continue your tour.
Plenty of tapas bars here that are worth a visit.
One place I recommend is El Tintero at barrio El Palo. An experience not to be missed.
