My fiance and I are planning to fly from Gatwick to Edinburgh for our honeymoon next March.  I shall be taking his name when we marry, but we go away the next day.  Can I travel on my maiden name, all of my ID will be out of date, wouldn't it?  Also, as I am the one with constant computer access, I shall be booking it.  Does it matter that my name will have changed?  It is all so confusing!

I suggest that you make the bookings in your current name as shown on your credit card now. It will be difficult to arrange for your name change within a day after getting married. Besides you will not have photo id in new name within a day of getting married. As far as the airline is concerned you are travelling on their planes, the marital status is inconsequential. So stick with maiden names. you have other things to worry about...like will the flowers/dress arrive on time.

Hehe, I'm growing the flowers, making the dress and the cake etc!  A product of the Good Life, i'm afraid!  However, the booze shall most definitely not be home grown... lol
DT's right: postpone changing your name. There's no official change-of-name date (in fact you don't have to do it at all if you don't want), so just do it when convenient. You probably won't be able to do it all at once anyway, it's more a matter of telling interested parties when you can, including the passport office.
It is possible to get a passport in your married name before you get married so you could book the tickets in your married name if you want.

Ask the passport office for information.

Also the same name does not have to be on the credit card you book the flights etc with as on the ticket. My mother in law booked and paid for mine and my husbands honeymoon on her credit card and she does not have the same name as eother of us!
We've just been through this ourselves. My now wife applied for a passport in her new name before the wedding. You can do this up to six months beforehand, I think all she needed was the fee and a form from the registrat saying we had a wedding planned. Her existing passport was then marked with a newer expiry date (it had the corner cut off!). Al the advice was on the passport agency website, and it was very easy as we went to the passport office. Very smooth indeed.
As DomTuk says, the most im portant thing is whether the name on the flight ticket matches the passport - you won't get anywhere if it does not. So if you've already booked you need to stick with that and do all the changes of passport later. You will also need to telll any travel insurance company you use.
