If so please tell me about the seven gorgeous cats lazing in the sun in the car park on the beach, all together today. Six were soft ginger and all had one pointed ear, and one squared off! They didn't look like strays and must be related !

A squared off ear means that they are feral cats who have been neutered by a cat charity. The catch the cats, knock them out to save stress, give them a thorough medical then neuter and tip one ear so that they can tell that they have been neutered. this saves the cat stress from being caught again, also she cats are hard to tell if they have been neutered or not without another op. Often these feral groups are fed and card for by local businesses etcet who are grateful for their mousing skills. Round here there are many stables and they like to have groups of supported ferals to deal with rats and mice. Groups of healthy neutered ferals also prevent the ingress of unneutered cats and the resulting kitten explosion. Everyone wins including the cats.

Fascinating. Hope they survive the winter.
If they have been caught and neutered, its likely that they are being kept an eye on and will be offered food and shelter if they need it.
