I've also been told it could be the Gloucester Arms but cant find whereabouts this was on Scotswood Rd
There are, at a quick glance, at least two mentioned on this site:
http://www.closedpubs.co.uk/northumberland/newcastle.html
The Robin Adair.
Pic here but I would say this one was late 60's / 70's built

We flew past Armstrong's factory,
And up to The Robin Adair,
And as we went around the bend
The bus wheel flew off there.

I left N/c in 1965 after 3 years in Durham City, then 2 in N/c - bedsit in Jesmond. Terrible!
Admit to us all which college you were at..
'Three years in Durham City' - you wuz posh lad at the uni!
Yep, The Venerable Bede, 1960 - 1963. Then Kenton Sec. School, 63 to 65.
Then you missed OH by 3 years.
And me by a college and 8 years.
Happy days.
Bede and Hild now, of course.
'In our day' you couldn't buy a bottle of milk after 12.30 on Saturday when Woolies shut.
Yes, I realised the 2 had combined. "We are from St Hild's, good girls are we; We take a pride in our virginity!"
We used to call it "The Venereal Bede" ! Happy days, best 3 years of my life.
I have a vague memory of a pub along there called The Hydraulic Crane. Or is my aged brain playing tricks on me?
The hydraulic crane was just at the turn off to the new business park, had a few drinks in there in the seventies.
Now, this is really multiculturalism. As a Canadian I went to my local bar, owned by an Italian, and asked the Native Canadian bartender whose husband is a Geordie the question posed by the OP. He lived in that area, and suggested the name of the pub could be the "Ord Arms". He also said that you could start at one end of Scotswood Rd, have half a pint in each pub, and never reach the other end of the road sober!

cheers guys, it was the robin adair, the hydraulic crane was also laterly known as Armstrongs and now has an audi garage sitting on top of it.
I think that my Geordie friend over here was confused. I checked that link which I supplied above, and there is no "Ord Arms" listed; however, there is mention of an "Ordnance Arms", but it was in or on Gallowgate. Interesting question, danchip...Cheers.
