Has anyone ever booked a flight through priceline.co.uk (the site where you name your price and they try to find a flight for you)? Are you likely to get substantial discounts or does it not really work out too much cheaper?

I have and I saved about 20%. The trouble is, you have to be flexible in when you fly - you specify the day but then they can pick any flight on that day - could be early morning or late evening. And once you submit your request, if it's accepted, the flight is booked and non-refundable. So it's good for certain situations. If I was to use it again I would go for a lower offer. Fairly obviously, you have more chance of a bargain if the flight is not generally full. I live in Aberdeen and most domestic flights to and from here are half-full. A 20 ticket is better than an empty seat for the airline.

Thanks for that . . . so Glasgow - New York, how much does everybody think would be a reasonable price to offer?
i would start at 40% of the asking price. if refused you can always try again.
