Warm Clothing

I feel the cold quite badly and always have cold hands and feet. I have noticed many times that many elderly people just do not wear appropriate clothing for the cold weather, and don't understand why many more do not wear fleece trousers, long sleeved cotton tee shirts and a fleece zipper jacket over the top when they are sitting around indoors. It is even more important when they go outside. So many older people wear acrylic type skirts and trousers, which are completely useless if the weather is cold, and so many of them do not wear socks, and boots, preferring instead to wear stockings and shoes.
We have to get used to dressing in warmer lighter layers when the weather is cold, and it is not expensive to buy fleece clothing nowadays from the cheaper clothing chain stores. If you have to buy an older person a christmas present, think about fleecy type clothes. They will be eternally grateful.

A nice thought, jamesnan. And you're correct, dressing in layers is of paramount importance in cold weather. The most efficient first layer is a good old-fashion string vest as it traps a layer of warm air right next to your skin. By the way, it's minus eleven with a wind chill of minus twenty here in the Toronto area...A little nippy.

How come I see some oldies wearing coats and thick clothing in the middle of summer?

I took my Mum to Bejing with me in the middle of winter and people were staring at her. We thought it was just because we were obvious foreigners. A couple of people wanted their photos taken with us as well. One of the locals looked at my Mum and made a shivering gesture and then we realised why she had so much attention - she was wearing a skirt and tights (it was about -5) whilst the locals were bundled up in goosedown coats and trousers.

It's a very nice thought but be careful not to offend. When we bought my mum a heatpad for Xmas she was fuming (she'd rather have had something like Gucci Envy).

I wouldn't be grateful. When I was young I felt the cold but now I am warm all the time
so have no need of fleece clothing!

My kids will be buying gifts for this pensioner. If they turn up with anything fleecy they're out of the will. Rigby and Peller, Agent Provocateur and Ann Summers are yes.....Damart a big no.....☻

Fleeces never look smart do they? Yes, they are warm, I agree with that but I always feel like a Michelin Man when I wear one. The worst offender is my fleecy dressing gown....................gross!
