Sorry if this is in the wrong forum... I have a friend I wish to ring in London. Her phone number is 078 with 8 digits after that. I don't know if that is a mobile or a landline, so please can anyone tell me the number I will be able to ring her on from the Republic of Ireland. Thanks in advance!

I'm fairly sure that's a mobile number
You need to ring 4478 followed by the 8 digits
and it should work
Hi sir.prize, your reply is better
Of course to ring out you must dial 00 first
Hi Psybbo - as you say it should work . . . .

Thank you all for the answers, much appreciated.
There seems to be something missing above!

To dial any international number from Ireland:
Start by entering the 'exit code' used in Ireland. That's '00' (or, when using a mobile you can also press '+' as that automatically calls up the exit code for whichever country you happen to be in).

Then enter the code for the country you require. For the UK that's '44'

Then enter the local number of the phone you're calling. For most countries, including the UK, omit a leading '0'.

So you need to call:
00 44 78 ** ** ** **
or
+ 44 78 ** ** ** **
I must have been typing really slowly there. Sir P's later answers weren't there when I started!
