36 Answers
Mu darling hubby is 50 at New Year and I have started saving to take him away for his birthday. But I am unsure where to take him. I was thinking about a week in the sun or should I do a city break like Praque, Berlin, Krakow or Amsterdam some where like that or maybe Dublin, I just don't know any suggestions please?

Done Paris when we got engaged and he was sick so that's a definite no no ha ha ha Redman he loves doing all that, he likes to slob on a beach or around the pool but he also likes sightseeing and enjoying other cultures, food drink, (especially drink) he wouldn't like zip although I would. Ok Dublin out then.

Around New Year some of the places you've mentioned can be very cold. The temperature in Prague or Krakow, for example, is unlikely to get above freezing. I'd save them for a summer trip and head further south for your husband's 50th. With that in mind, I'll give my support to 2sp_'s suggestion:

Paris is interesting but it ain't cheap, you'll be lucky to get away with less than €100 per day for a poky hotel room. That said, I'm not a city person but I quite like Paris, but Lisbon is very nice and probably cheaper. The Portuguese are very civilised and friendly. Friends have thoroughly enjoyed Barcelona too. Avoid place like Lugano which stinks of money but is as boring as buggery.
You cant beat Venice , or Rome or Milan but go in March or April not the New year too cold!
I have been to Venice 3 times and would return anytime , last time we landed at marco polo airport and took a water taxi (ie speed boat !) straight from the airport through the waters to the grand union canal , up the canal and stepped out into our hotel ! The old man though he was James Bond and I felt like Brigitte Bardot!!! half an hour later we were on the hotel roof garden in a double hanging chair sipping cocktails looking out over the Venice sky line !! I am getting all misty eyed now , can I come with you as well ???
Enjoy - wherever you go as long as you have your health and eachother thats all that matters!!
