London - Sunday Morning
5 Answers
Can anyone help with this please? I'll be attending the Royal British Legion Memorial at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday Nov.13th 2005. In fact, I'll be taking part in the march-past. I don't want to drive into London. I want to park on the outskirts then catch a train if possible. I'll be driving down the M1. I have to be in Whitehall no later than 9.30 a.m. Has anyone made a similar trip? Or perhaps anyone who lives in the area can advise? Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Keep your eyes open for residents-only zones, but there are usually alternatives if you aren't too close to town (say zone 3 or further outwards). Or park at Brent Cross shopping centre - loads of space - make your way over a horrendous interchange (10-minute walk) to Brent Cross tube on the Northern line, then go (on the branch via Leicester Square) to Charing Cross.
Good answer by jno. Another possibility is downloading an Underground map with symbols to show which stations have car parks. Last time I used one it was about 2 for the day, and I'm not even sure that they charge on Sundays. Whichever way you choose, give yourself plenty of time to find a space - I have a feeling that a few other people will be going.
When I go to London (Coming down the M1) I always park at Stanmore tube and get the tube in. Come off at J4 onto the A41. At the first r'about turn right. Straight over the next r'about and the tube station is on your left about 300 yards after it. The entrance to the car park is immediately before the tube station. I think it is about 2 to park (though it might be free on a Sunday) and a return ticket Westminster or Charing Cross tube is about 3.50. Its by far the easiest way to get in and out of London.
