French Holiday

We would like a slightly rural holiday, but also on good train links to visit Paris and Versailles. Im looking at Normandy but just getting confused with type of area and where the stations are.
So, its over to you guys, can you do better than Brittany ferries, holiday france etc PLEASE

Trains in France are highly civilised, you will find it very enjoyable
I think the fast train is something like 2hrs to Paris from the eastern coast of Normandy
