Barcelona?where To Stay Nearby?

got flights in september really cheap to barcelona el prat...want a cheap hotel near to beach bars and a stroll on the promenade etc...which resorts are nearby to the airport apart from going into costa brava,calella etc? only got 3 days so dont want to be travelling too far from airport.barcelona itself seems very expensive and not too fussed about sightseeing.

How about Castelldefels? It's south of the airport so you wouldn't need to go into Barcelona at all if you didn't want to. There will almost certainly be trains from the airport to the town.
Tripadvisor best for range of hotel options, but book it through booking.com if possible as they allow you to cancel without penalty.

It's a fish restaurant where they bring you the set menu until you stop or pop. It was cheap, but it was the best food I had in Barca last year.

I can recommend the area Port Olympic, right by the marina which is full of restaurants and bars, it's also on top of the beach. Walking into the main hub (Ramblas) of Barca takes about 10 minutes.

Oh also, when you go to the market, go to the very back and try that restaurant. It was superb and cheap! It's run by local students which means the service is hit and miss, but the quality of the food was great. They use it as a way to fund uni projects like their art shows etc.

I'd still recommend staying in Barcelona itself. It's got an excellent, cheap and fully-integrated transport system so getting to beaches, bars, etc, simply isn't a problem. (Barcelona has some great beaches. You don't need to travel out to the Costas).

NB: Don't be put off by the word 'hostel' in that URL. You can use the search facility to de-select 'hostels' but still search for 'hotels' and 'B&Bs' if you so wish. Further don't be put off if you see the word 'Hostal' in a property description. Spaniards use it almost synonymously with 'Pension', to mean a small private hotel. (I found a delightful 'Hostal' in Madrid last year, using that website, in a prime location, for just €22 per night)

In particular, consider Hostal Nilo which charges £21.14 pppn single or £19.87 pppn double or twin. Eixample Passeig Gracia 1 is another possibility (£21.14pppn single, £16.91 [or £19.02 at weekends] pppn double). And there are LOTS more!

hi thanks for replies..i saw a lovely hotel calles salles piere 1V (spelling) but seems out of it,or is it just like london tube where you just jump on and off?we wont have any children so we dont mind travelling this way as long as it doesnt take up too much drinkingtime!

From the website of that hotel:

Far from being 'out of it', it seems ideally placed for what you're looking for! (The Metro trains are modern, clean, fast, frequent, air-conditioned and cheap. Three stops into the city centre will take you just a few minutes and, as suggested, Port Olimpic is a great area for bars, restaurants, etc (and adjacent to some good beaches).

You can get the Metro to almost anywhere in Barcelona. (Note, however, that the 'T' lines shown on a Metro map, e.g. T1, T2, etc, are actually tram routes. I spent ages trying to find non-existent underground stations until I worked that out!).

Las Ramblas is about three quarters of a mile long, with three Metro stops on Line 3 along it. (Catalunya is at the northern end, Liceu is in the middle and Drassanes is at the southern end). However Catalunya is also on Line 1, which you can join at Marina, 500m from the hotel. Alternatively you can walk just 200m from the hotel to Bogatell on Line 4, travel to Passeig de Gràcia and then join Line 3 there.

thanks for all the info definitely helps getting to know the area..do you know of any golf courses nearish for the men?? im presuming we can access the beach from the hotel too

There are lots of beaches in and around Barcelona, (See link below). Platja Nova Icària and Platja Passeig Maritim are both within walking distance of the hotel (and the others are all easy enough to get to).

There are 20 golf courses listed on the Barcelona Tourism website but youll need to check out the links to see which are open to non-members:

However if the guys want to treat themselves, €193 will pay the green fees for two people and the use of a buggy (so no long walks with heavy clubs in the heat!) at the PGA Catalunya Stadium Course (which is possibly the best course in Spain):
