I wouldn't say I was a big Elvis fan as I was only 13 when he died, but I found the first visit quite emotional. You can spend a few hours at Graceland. For the tour of the house you have a walkman and can go at your own pace. It's real 70's kitsch decor. Across the road from the house is a cinema showing clips of his films; a museum with cars, bikes, stage costumes; a gift shop (of course); his two jet aeroplanes. If I remember correctly you can buy a ticket for just the house tour or add on the other exhibits. It's really worth a visit whether or not you're a fan.
While in Memphis don't miss a visit to Sun Studio and Beale Street downtown - full of bars/restaurants with live music.
Have fun!

I would recommend buying a ticket in advance from the Graceland website. This will allow you to select a time for your tour - when we (deliberately) turned up early for our time slot, we were still able to bypass the long line to buy tickets, use the "collect tickets" window and take the tour early.
Like Sue Balou said, you can buy a ticket for the house & garden only, or also for the cars & two aircraft- depends on what time you have available & how big a fan you are. While you are in the house, listening to the walkman tour, you can pause the commentary at any time and take as long as you want to go through the house.
We found it smaller than expected, kitch (green shag pile carpet on the ceiling of the jungle room....nice!!) but very interesting and at times, moving. You'll love it !
