how to wear a kilt

what is the proper way to wear a kilt? Where does the sporan strap go? Is a kilt belt necessary? do you wear a kilt belt and sporan stap together?

The sporran strap should go thro a couple of loops that are usually at the top of the kilt- either on the sides or at the back.In terms of whether or not a belt should be worn - traditionally, if you are wearing the kilt with an "Argyle" jacket ( the tweedy short-suit-jacket-style) which is normally for day time wear, then a belt should be worn. If, however, you are wearing a "Prince Charlie" jacket (the black short-tux-and -waistcoat-style) normally reserved for evening wear, then no belt should be worn. However, more recently most people tend to wear a belt irrespective of what style of jacket is being worn. If you are wearing a belt, then the sporran strap should sit underneath. Hope this helps
