If I 'lose' my other half on a cruise, (no quips please) and our mobiles cant get a network, any ideas for something small we can use ? Walkie talkie ?

Better to wait until they are ashore and use a mobile then but remember that most mobile phone companies charge extra for overseas calls and they will be in a different country every time they are ashore .

My elderly great-aunt and her even older best friend used to holiday together on land and on sea.
Laura had an awful sense of direction (she managed to get lost in my house) and so they took to attaching balloons to their wrists.
If Laura excused herself for any reason, my aunt would scan the room to see Laura's "Frances, where are you?" balloon and slowly raise her own "Laura, I'm here."
It never failed........:o)
