We will be joining our friends in Las Vegas next summer who will be renewing their wedding vows which will be great. We have visited LV before and so after all the fun are thinking about the possibility of visiting Hawaii for a few days before or afterwards whilst we are on that side of the country.

So, is August a good time to visit Hawaii weather-wise, which island do we go to? (We don't like high-rise hotels with families and night life),what is there to do there, and is it generally more expensive than mainland US? We like to have a rental location and a car when in the States so advice on that would be great. I am in my mid 50's and hubby early 60's so we aren't looking for laying on a beach all day and enjoy scenery, eating out ......the usual thing for people,of a certain age!

Any advice would be very useful negative or positive.

Given what you say you dislike, you do not want to go to Oahu, though you will probably have to fly there (Honolulu) to start and finish. I would say everything is 20% more expensive than US as much has to be imported.
Kauai, Big Island or Maui are best. Plenty of scenery on all of the islands.
It's a long flight though- about 6 hours from Las Vegas

Hhmmmmm thanks all. Got a suspicion that it might be a bit of a let down if we aren't careful. Will need lots of reading beforehand.
