I have thoroughly enjoyed Jeff Pearce's crossword in this morning's Sunday Times. Sensible clues which are testers (for me) and a sense of achievement when solved; thank you Mr. Pearce.
Just one clue I need explanation for; 17 down, Clue: Manx cat on temple in Rome(8). I have: ?A?T?E?N. I'm certain the answer is PANTHEON but I don't know where the Manx cat comes into it. If the T was wrong I could get TAILLESS which makes sense for the cat but can't see a Roman temple in this. Can anyone explain please.

Ah yes, thank you both. Panth(er) on even.
panthe (r) on
panther with no tail
It's PANTHEON - panther without the last letter

Thank you Sugarplum, I think we arrived at that conclusion.
LOL
Panther without its tail (r) plus "on"
Manx cat is tailless- i.e. Panther minus r plus on
