Bank Holiday wages

I think I may be asked to work this bank holiday but last time I worked a bank holiday I was paid my normal hourly rate - I keep getting told by people its compulsory to be paid double time or time and a half for working a Bank Holiday - I do not want to bring this up with my boss incase its wrong so can someone please tell me if it is law or just a general guideline that you are paid more on a Bank Holiday???

Holiday entitlement usually forms partof the EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT. In the absence of express provision in the contract, an entitlement may arise by implication- for example, by reference to custom and practise in the industry concerned
