What do you use to carry your money in European cities?

I want to be safe but practical. Obviously I should avoid a rucksack style day bag, or one with a thin strap. I'm thinking about using a normal looking small handbag for glasses, map, tissues, cheap mobile phone, etc and carrying the cash and a debit card in a money belt.

I'd welcome your suggestions or tips for being safe during 5 days in Paris.

I take a cross body shoulder bag wherever I go (including places that are a lot more risky than Paris). That way, I have my money in front of me where it`s difficult for someone to grab.
but watch out for mopeds with lads bearing knives, cut the strap and off ! have seen this done in Rome...I wear a belt under my top, can`t be seen but accessible..
Mrs Sqad does the same as 237SJ........a crossover handbag, but underneath her coat.

I have a few cross body bags I thought about using for the general stuff and to keep a few euros at hand for the day to day use.

Do you keep all your money and card in it too?
That method has seen me safetly around South America. Mind you, you are more likely to be held up a gun point there..

Yes murray, i'm think of using a belt too. Where did you buy yours from?
\\\\Do you keep all your money and card in it too?\\\

Yes.......she does.

Under the coat is a good reminder, thanks sqad.
Maydup, just take enough with you for your trip & cups of tea, that's what we do.
Same as the others, a cross-body bag, but I usually have a flap on it as well as a zip, and keep the flap side next to my body. I carry one card with me (with the details and emergency contact details written down and left in the safe at the hotel), and a limited amount of cash. Any other cash stays in the hotel safe.
Try and avoid carrying too much at a time also leave documents in a secure place. You should make photo copy's of passport air ticket etc and keep separate from the originals in case of loss.
Paris is pretty safe, take precautions especially Brinjals, but there is nothing to worry about. Just avoid marking yourself out as a tourist and avoid crushes on the metro particularly.
I always wear a money belt on holiday - even in bed. Especially as my bag, next to my pillow, was once emptied while I slept in a hotel in Madeira. But I am looking for a more comfortable money belt, if anyone knows of suppliers.
yes, I know it makes things difficult when you are going through security checks at airports, but the feeling of security is worth the bother.
Tight knicker elastic !! Keep it all up the leg of your drawers. You'll crunch and rattle when you walk and there may well be some chafing... but it's worth it. !
I put my keys and my bank card in my bra, sometimes my mobile phone too. Only problem is that if someone phones you it makes your boob glow.

Could you not have you phone on vibrate? No, maybe not...
I use a 'man handbag' one of those small square bags with several zip compartments where you have your hand through the loop and hold the bag.
when I used money belt under my clothes I was afraid people would think I was interfering with myself as it is sometimes difficult to get the money out LOL
