Car Hire Dover

I've just had a call from my son in Germany. He wants me to arrange a hire car to be picked up tomorrow about 10 pm in Dover. All the sites I've tried seem to close at 5 or earlier, and/or need 48 hours notice for out-of-hours pick-up. Does anyone know a company that would still be open Saturday evening?

Have you tried Europcar? Their website says that they're open until 2359 (although an additional fee applies after 1600). With light luggage it's possible to walk to the Europcar site from the ferry terminal or a taxi wouldn't cost very much:

If Europcar doesn't work out, I wonder what his final destination is? Could it be worth taking a train to Ashford and renting a car there? At that time of night I don't think the shuttle between the ferry and the station will be running, so he'd have to walk or take a taxi.

Or, if he's got a long journey ahead and is arriving in Dover late at night, he could stay in a Dover hotel, have a leisurely full English breakfast and start the journey when the car rental companies open at 10 on Sunday!
