...We're off to Bowness for a short break shortly and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for Sunday lunch and other good dining experiences in the Windermere area. I know there's Trip Advisor but I'm hoping for the personal ABer touch.

If money's no object I can vouch for this place

We have had some lovely meals in The Hole in the wall Bowness although it was a little while ago
The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite. Excellent food but expensive. Don't know the costs in Captain2's suggestion.

You can get full details on the internet.
Jacksons Bistro was lovely when we went have a look at reviews on trip advisor, you might have to book tho!!
Wherever you go Jan, have a great time. Bowness is lovely
Nearby Ambleside is pretty too and has nice eateries.

Many thanks for your suggestions. Might just push the boat out and go for Millerhowe.
Yes Millerhowe is a good suggestion and my personal suggestion would be:

I'm not familiar with the Miller Howe but their menu is very enticing and when I am next in that neck of the woods I will definitely pay it a visit.

They do need to get someone to proof read their website though as I have found a number of howlers on the menus.

There is a very good Thai restaurant in Bowness it is above a shop but I cannot for the life of me remember the name. A pub with, I think, duck in the name is often mentioned as being a go to place......my cup of disappointment overflowed on my visit :-(
Had an absolutely delicious lunch at the Angel Inn a couple of years ago (never forgotten it). The sandwiches were to die for ! I would definitely recommend this place. Can't quite remember the address, although it is in Bowness, but you would be able to google it anyway.
That'll be The Drunken Duck Eccles - same reason I didn't mention it and it is very busy at all times
Miller Howe was at it's heights when run by John Tovey, a bit theatrical, but it suited the sqads.

Haven't been for a few years, but i understand that it is still good.
Bragging a bit I know but the very best place is The Sharrow Bay on Ullswater.
Went for a long weekend many years ago and they sat you down in a quiet corner with a coffee and brandy before they produced the bill - just in case!

Sharrow Bay ...excellent.......but quite a drive from Windermere...;-)
Agreed sqad, (22 miles), but what a beautiful drive over Glenridding. Mind you I am biased because Ullswater is my favourite place in The Lakes.
Thank you Captain, that's the place. When we got back to our friends and told them where we lunched they burst out laughing......I think sucker was the term they used to describe us :-(

It is one of those places that thrives on one off visitors as it is nicely positioned on popular walks, I seriously question that they have much I the way of a local clientele for the food.
Captain....yes, we had some good weekends at the Lakes.

Only 22 miles.......well that's not bad.
