The Canaries are always a good bet in January. Wherever you go, have a good time and, can I come with you? PLEASE....

We're good at many things here on AB but we can't change:
(a) the way that the Earth moves around the Sun ; and
(b) the distances between Luton and relevant destinations.

Putting those two considerations together means that, in order to find much sunshine, you'll need to extend your journey time to around 4½ hours to get to the Canary Islands or even longer to get to Egypt. No European destination will be particularly warm around that time of year.

Southern Spain, Sicily and Malta (which are all around 3 hours from Luton) will all be 'pleasant' in January but they certainly won't be 'hot'.

See here to view destinations served from Luton. (Clicking on each one shows the journey time). Remember that you need to head as far south as possible to find warm sunshine in mid-winter:

I'm in Tenerife at the minute and it's not 'hot' just a pleasant 24 degrees. Would think you probably would have to fly further south to get a warmer hold in January.

thank you two for all the info
have a veryvery pleasant xmas
Flying to Morocco is only a few minutes over three hours
even the North African coast doesn't have reliable sun or heat in January. Tunisia or Morocco might be okay, especially Agadir, but that's a bit under 4 hours direct. Southern Egypt's okay (chilly at night) but that's even further.
