The brother in law is here from overseas and has decided he wants to drive to a village and have a nice lunch in a country pub.... Now there is a lot of countryside in England, but I certainly do not want to be driving more than an hour with 2 kids in the car too. Friends have said to head to Windsor as there are villages around there and nice pubs... anyone else no somewhere nice to go to?? Many thanks.

or 'know' somewhere even?! (Hangs head in shame!)
Why not got to Richmond ? Plenty of eating places near the river, and you can get the train there from Town.
Question Author
Yes, Richmond is nice, I live next door! It's hardly the countryside though....
Gomshall ? I seem to recall a nice old Young's pub there amongst a few other pubs.
I go here sometimes (lovely at Christmas when they`ve got the tree up and the fire on) I prefer the bar area rather than the restaurant for eating because then you get the "country pub feel" http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g2431670-d2456342-Reviews-The_Sportsman-Tadworth_Surrey_England.html

Thanks all.
Haven't been for a while, but this always used to be a splendid place. About 25 miles from you.

Hi Knowabit
Recently visited The Fifield Inn, Fifield - the food is to die for. They do the best chips I have ever had !! Not cheap mind you. It's between Windsor and Maidenhead. If you google the name and visit their website, you'll see menus etc.
