We're going to Liverpool this month(June) for a week!Staying at Premier Inn,Albert Dock- what's to see and what's not worth bothering about?
Both pensioners,but active and curious!
Ideas please,ta.

You have got to do the Beatles Magical Mystery tour, tickets can be bought from Albert Dock information desk. The tour starts from Albert Dock and takes you to all of the houses where the fab 4 were born, it also takes you down Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields and ends up at the Cavern Club, there is a guide on the bus who tells the whole story as you go along, great value trip. I have been twice, i'm 67 by the way, and i'm planning to go again this summer. On Thursday evening in the Cavern Club they have the Cavern Beatles, who are brilliant, I advise you get there early as it gets really busy and you may not get a seat. Good luck, enjoy your trip.

Take the Mersey Ferry over to the other side and back ! I did that 25 years ago, while Playing Gerry and the Pacemakers on my Walkman ! Great fun !

Both Cathedrals are worth seeing.

Do all the docks where it all started, Liverpool & the people are Great with a very good sense of humour, but it takes some getting used to, they will take the Izz out of everyone but not meaning any offence.

It's great in and around the Albert Dock area, plenty of places to eat there as well. As Mikey says, take a trip on the Mersey Ferry. If you like the theatre, the Empire by the railway station is a must as the shows put on there are second to none. Good shops too in the centre of Liverpool. Enjoy !

I'm not sure there's enough to keep you occupied for a week in Liverpool, nice as it is. After you've seen albert dock, the two cathedrals, Liverpool one for the shops, then I suggest getting the train to Chester if youve never been, and the other way to southport which is not so interesting but has a huge beach once the tide has gone out. There's the Anthony gormley sculptures to see on Crosby beach too, well worth seeing. Stadium tour at Anfield appeal?
There's Croxteth park which is quite interesting, google it, and Speke hall which is also worth a visit. On the other side of the Mersey is Port Sunlight, an iconic village built by lord Leverhulme and on the merseyrail loop so very easy to get to. And at New Brighton, a stop off for the Mersey ferry, there's fort Perch Rock which you might enjoy.

You should make sure that you go to The Philharmonic pub. I know it sounds strange but the gents toilets are absolutely amazing. They are marble and unlike anything I have seen anywhere in the world. Just mention to a member of staff that you'd like to see them and they'll make sure you don't scare anyone. The Crack pub across the road is also worth a visit as is Chinatown. Don't forget to take your bus pass then you can jump on and off the buses free. St George's Hall and the Walker Art Gallery worth a look too

I am currently sat in my office overlooking the Pier Head in Liverpool, the sun is out and I must admit it is a very nice place to be.
Here are my suggestions;
Galleries - Walker Art Gallery, Tate Liverpool (Albert Dock) and The Bluecoat
Museums - International Slavery Museum (Albert Dock), Maritime Museum (Albert Dock), Museum Of Liverpool, The World Museum
You can check out both Cathedrals, both very different but worthwhile.
The Wheel (100 yards from Albert Dock) is worth a go, excellent views
The Mersey Ferry is a bit of an institution, the 60min round trip gives river views and a good deal of maritime history as part of the tour
If football is your thing check out the Anfield stadium tour (you can do Goodison Park but there are less trophies to look at!!)
You can get an open top tour bus in front of the Liver Buildings which will give you a decent idea of what's going on in the city
Of course Matthew St for the Beatles history (and museum at Albert Dock), Check out Blake's at the Hard Days Night Hotel, a great spot for food and drink.
At the Albert Dock you have a variety of very good restaurants, I like the Blue Bar and Grill
Shopping - L1 is ok for a couple hours, plenty of food and drink options
You may decide to venture out to Chester (less than hour on the train)
Crosby Beach to visit the Gormley Statues and watch the ships come up the channel with an ice cream!
Southport is a lovely seaside town (40 mins on the train)

It's nice to find someone who's proud of their city and pleased to be there!
We intended to visit both the Walker & the Tate and it's nice to know that there are so many museums and galleries within walking distance. I'm sure we'll miss a pile of places and things, but if we enjoy it as much as we're anticipating then I'm sure we shall return.

Just got back from a week in Liverpool;should have been a month! So much to see and do. Firstly we did BOTH cathedrals-each magnificent,then onto Walker Gallery,Museum of Liverpool (also got an exhibition of Mayan art),then down to the Tate and a trip to Lady Lever Gallery (Port Sunlight),up the Radio Mast (good views). We ate & drank in The 'Philharmonic' pub!(amazing),'Gusto' (Italian) and 'The Social' on Hanover Street(bit expensive). Stayed at the Premier Inn,Albert Docks-magnificent views onto the docks. So, all in all I'm envious of jd_1984. I shall be going back to Liverpool,even though I still did the 'Ferry 'cross the Mersey' in the Peter Blakes' 'Razzle' Good time!!
