Maydup, yep, but hopefully things will be quieter in Sept, (??!!).
Was using the French booking system, sncf, mushroom, and subsequently found out from the man in seat 61, that you can't pick your own seat, they allocate them for you. Which is a bit of a bummer, as I wanted an upstairs, single seat.
Never mind. Should be fun anyway.

It looks like you've answered your own question, JK, but I'll just pop in anyway to remind you that (if your journey starts in the UK) it can often be cheaper to book through tickets to your destination on the Eurostar website than to book them separately with National Rail, Eurostar and, for example, SNCF. (e.g. if you wanted to travel from York to Lyon you can get a through fare on the Eurostar website, which is likely to be much cheaper than the three separate fares you'd otherwise have to book).
However if you still want to ask SNCF to allocate you a seat where you'd like it to be, why not call their UK booking service and speak to someone there?
