This should perhaps be in Travel; however, there is more activity here. A friend of mine is the deputy editor of a Toronto newspaper and is going on an all expense one week visit to promote Scottish business tourism in Canada. He says he hasn't got the full itinerary yet, but he will be based at Glen eagles. I know it's in Perthshire, but what are the largest cities/towns nearby?

Auchterarder....... ;-)
More seriously Perth and Stirling are close by. In Canadian terms Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reachable too, for a day out maybe not just for a pint and a pie.

Thanks, Eccles, I've heard Glasgow and Edinburgh., but where is that place you mention?
27 miles from Dundee
Roughly half an hour from Perth to the East (although whether Perth can be classed as a large town is debatable) or 1 and a quarter hours from Edinburgh. Both car timings.
Auchterarder is the nearest village/town to Gleneagles. It is very nice with lovely gift shops but not much use for anything else.
Question Author
OK, thanks for that. The purpose of the trip is to promote the higher-end hotels for Canadian business travelers, so I imagine they'll pop into those cities you mentioned.
hopefully your friend will head North to the Craigelaachie which has recently been refurbished and overlooks the River Spey. Stunning spot.
Auchterarder is a very small village..if your friend is looking to promote an international business class tourist then he needs to come to Edinburgh and Glasgow...Perth although classed a city is not much more than a town...Edinburgh in particular is THE place to promote such a business...I am surprised he is staying at Gleneagles..5 star hotel with the golf course but for business he should have come to Edinburgh..either New Balmoral or Caledonian Hotels..perhaps he wants to play golf ?
Question Author
Thanks for your responses. I will email him this thread,
Stuey..my throwaway mail [email protected] if you want more insider info...I am in Edinburgh
Question Author
Murraymints, the trip is sponsored and paid for by the Scottish Tourist Board, or whatever it's called, he had no choice in the planning.
more like they wanted to promote Gleneagles then !!
Question Author
OK, he'll get your email when he receives this thread...Thanks.
I'm sitting in the middle of Perth city centre and it is p¡ssing down outside. It is so cold and miserable that it could be winter. Warn your pal Stuey -even the Midgies are feeling the cold.

Zac - we are a city - City of Perth

ha ha..same here wolf....! xx.....nothing doing in The Concert Hall today ? at least you'll be dry !
aye ..by definition ..but a wee wee one ! lol
MM - it is, maybe, a smaller city but it is just the right size for me.

I went to the concert all around about Easter with my AB friend(??) (Andrew1707) and his lovely daughter for lunch. It is like eating in an airport terminal or hanger - but it isn't cheap.

Question Author
It seems that when I emailed him the thread he can actually read it as it progresses...I didn't realize that: he's quite enjoying the wee goings on here:)
