It's Been A Very Long Day!!

We went for a days Cruise from Lydney FOD to Ilfacombe on board the good ship Balmoral. We started at 8.45am. The weather was atrocious, rain and wind so we had to sit inside. Fighting for seats, kids jumping on the seats next to us grrrrr.
It took 6 hours to get there and when we were getting off we were told be back in 90 minutes or we will go without you!
We just had time for a meal when we had to return to the ship. We sailed to Penarth then got a coach back to Lydney. We got home at 10.15 pm. Absolutely shattered. I don't think we will be doing it again as the long voyage down was quite boring stuck inside. There was no commentary so we didn't know where we were at anyone time.
Still you live and learn.
They do sail to Penarth which is a shorter trip so may try that next year.

Should I, for example, write "I'm sorry that you had such a long, boring day" or, perhaps, "I'm glad that you managed to survive and that neither you, nor your OH, actually fell overboard"? (Given your accident record, Caran, perhaps the latter is the most appropriate?)

Actually, in terms of timings, I had a roughly similar day yesterday. I had a 5½ hour journey (4 trains plus a bus) to get to a BBQ, 2 hours there and then 5½ hours back (a taxi and 4 trains). About 70 quid in fares made it an expensive pork butty but I don't regret it at all. It was my lad's 40th bash and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

Hi Tony.
I got to a local beer festival the other day, hosted by the Briarbank pub/brewery in Ipswich. Their own IPA (which I've had before) was very good but, among the guest ales, they'd also got Bathside Battery, from Harwich Town Brewing Co. I'd drunk it years ago but forgotten just how good Harwich Town beers are:

So, if you see them at a beerfest, give 'em a try!
