ever been guided to that infamous Welsh town by your SatNav ad, if so, how was its pronunciation of it?

Mine was in Welsh - I didn't understand it.

After the appropriate number of 'Turn right in X-number of yards' and 'turn left at the next junction' mine also tells me I 'have arrived at my destination'

So I'm guessing you don't have a Sat Nav!

I think it's known as "Llanfair PG". Perhaps satnavs use that abbreviation.

The name is made up - it was originally called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll. It was a ploy to put the place on the map by having the longest name on a train station.

When I worked for National Rail Enquiries I received a call for train times from Blaenauffestiniog to Llanfair PG, obviously a wind-up, a bloke in a pub with his mates listening in. What he didn't know was that I had recently begun to teach myself Welsh so understood immediately and gave him details in Welsh. He was a non-Welsh speaker and I could hear his mates jeering at him in the background when they realised he had bitten off more than he could chew.

Nobody ever calls it L............h...its always known as Llanfair PG.
