Turn left out of the airport, onto the A8. Carry on for approx 3 miles and you're there:

Actually it is for my brother who is coming from Australia. He hires a car at the airport and usually just drives into Edinburgh. There is always a build up of traffic at the maybury but there is roadworks elsewhere and it can become like gridlock. I am trying to find out if he heads for the bridge can he then turn around and come into Edinburgh via Queensferry Road.
There are two problems with your suggested route:
Firstly, to access the M8 you first need to turn West onto the A8, before turning right onto the A720 (close to Gyle Shopping Centre). At that point you're already so close to Corstorphine that going by any other route than straight along the A8 would seem to be madness.
Secondly, and more importantly, the M90/A90 junction has limited access. You'd need to go North on the A90 and then turn back at the B800 (Builyeon Road) roundabout.
Even if you did all of that, you'd still need to get to Corstorphine by turning right from the A90 onto either Drum Brae Street or Clermiston Road, which would probably take you into heavy traffic anyway.
