I've had a window cleaner for nearly a year now and I'm very pleased with him.He charges £4.20 for 3 medium windows and 1 patio window, and he comes about once a month. I would like to give him a tip for Christmas but don't know how much.Any suggestions? x

I pay mine £10, 2 coffees and biscuits every two months, Barsel.....and an extra tenner at Christmas......plus a mince pie with the coffee....☺
I would just buy him a bottle of wine.
I'd go with Gness. You don't know what his likes are for wine etc no good buying cheap wine for a connoisseur or good stuff for the likes of me; no good buying choccies for a diabetic. Money is always good. You get a good, cheap window clean, so Gness's suggestion of a tenner sounds good to me.
I pay mine £6 a month for 2 bay windows. At Christmas, I give him a bottle of wine.
Mine is £20pm for 21w (sash). Had him 30y+, best I tip £50 or marry him ;)
I always tip £10 to any 'tradesmen' at Xmas
Mine costs £10 a month plus tea and biscuits...and he also clears any moss and *** from the guttering...
Prudie...I thought all the tradesmen were in gness's shed ;-)

bhg481 gness pays him £10 as she obviously has more windows than me and another £10 for Christmas. I thought of doing that i.e giving him another £4.20 but thought that seemed daft so wondered if I should take it up to £5 but that seems daft too, giving him £9.20! What if I just give him a tenner which makes it £4.20 for the windows and £5.80 for a tip.Does that sound ok? x
She's not quite managed the monopoly on that cupes :-)
Pinkies for postman, gardener & window cleaner but owt for binmen coz they never call; I want council tax discount.
Do people really tip postmen?

For the window cleaner: make the tip a present. not part of his payment -I would put a tenner in a Christmas card and pay him his normal fee.

I must be scrooge -I tip no one except the trainee at the hairdressers that gets a pittance in wages.
What on earth is in Cupid's guttering?!

The shed dwellers wanted heating......as if!.....so Tony arranged a great escape..... :-(
A good tip would be to use vinegar on the difficult spots.
Barsel - that's exectly my line of thinking and exactly what I meant.

Thanks for all your answers. I think when he comes to clean the windows in December, I'll give him a tenner and just say keep the change.x
I would give him a tenner( in a card ) on top of his normal charge...otherwise it looks a bit stingy....to me anyway.

Oh dear, I don't want to seem stingy but I really am a poor (ish) pensioner with lots of things to buy for Christmas. I think I might ask some of my neighbours, as we all live in the same size old folk bungalows, and see what they are giving.x
If you're short on cash , topping that month up to £10 sounds perfect.
What you do for him at Xmas should be your reaction, not that of various Abers, many of whose circumstances may be considerably different from yours.
