Well I haven't I'm afraid, tez. Is Idris not available ;-)
With only one or two exceptions, I've always travelled abroad on my own. I'm far too independently-minded to want anyone else with me! (I've actually come to this thread directly from planning a trip to Paris on my own).

Enjoy your freedom ;-)
Hey, enjoy your hols Chris.
Yes often in the last 5 years tezmand. The main problem for me is going to dinner and sitting alone. Take a good book with you. !!
Great song.
Ever wonder if Michael would've lived longer had he not 'messed about' with his face and body? Wonder what he'd have looked like now?

Huge apologies, wrong thread!
I've always preferred holidaying alone, while I'm here in the wrong place. You can let your hair down without fear of embarrassing relatives, etc.
I have a friend to goes to one of the other Canaries on her own every year. She says it's easy to find company if you want it - lots of Brits eager to embrace singletons, but you can happily spend time on your own, too. Take a Kindle, book or phone for something to look at in restaurants if you want to be alone.
Also been travelling on my own for many years.
I tend to have a big lunch in a restaurant where there are lots of families, and then you don't feel so out of place, as in the evenings they tend to be mainly couples. Have a sandwich or take out later.
You will really appreciate the joy of not having to consult anyone on your plans for the day.
If you can fit a travel kettle into your case, great for having an early morning snack with, for example, some fruit and digestive biscuits.
Once you have done it, you'll be glad you did.
This year have already booked Paris/Reims, Genoa, Alicante/Murcia, and Valencia on my own. Good luck.
I too prefer to travel alone. Nobody else to answer to, you can do as you please, if you want to chat there are loads of people to talk to and if you don't want to chat you are not forced to. You will be surprised how many people do travel alone. Enjoyed yourself.
Enjoy yourself but be safe, as a lone woman in a resort you may attract predatory men.
I couldn't do it. I'm really shy and need OH as my sidekick. If he's with me I can talk to anyone but on my own I feel really awkward. The weird thing is though is I tend to make friends on holidays.
Never really appealed to me. Been alone when on courses and that was fine. Often alone normally day to day. But if making the effort to go through the hassle of a holiday I'd prefer being with company. Probably why I've not been away for years. Unless you like/crave solitude, or are socially minded and can converse with strangers with ease, rather than discomfort, then it may not be for you. On the other hand if you're a chatterbox and talk to everyone you may have a whale of a time. In and case you might hook up with a group on a coach excursion.
Love going on my own. This year will be going to Botswana and hopefully doing New York Marathon again. Have gone to Kenya, Costa Rica, Hungary, Argentina, Uruguay, Namibia, South Africa, Egypt and various other countries as an independent female traveller, and never experienced any problems. If I want to have time alone, it's great, and if I feel the need to go and chat to someone, I do the typical English tourist abroad bit and wear a football shirt, never fails to spark a conversation (had a very interesting conversation with a local guide in the middle of Mongolia about England's inability to take penalties).
Have a great time.
I too, rarely go on hols abroad with anyone else. It can be rather expensive of course...those single supplements are never cheap. But you should be OK Tez, as you are bound to meet others to chat to. Enjoy !

Are you paying single room supplement?
Often holidayed alone including a fabulous trip up the Nile
Question Author
Yes but I'm only paying £40 more than I did last year and I went with my daughter so total price of holiday must be cheaper than last yr or the flights
