My advice would be to go onto tripadvisor and search for the Malaga forum. There will be lots of tips from experts and others who have hired cars and which companies are best. I've not hired from there but have multiple times in the Balearics. Personally I'd go for a full to full fuel policy, take out your own personal full CDW insurance separate from what the hire company offers oh and don't touch Goldcar with a bargepole.
We've always rented through rentalcars.com, they offer good deals from a range of suppliers. Agree with the full-to-full and taking own excess insurance, look at the various options regarding extra-drivers, Budget tend to include it. Rental company excess policies often exclude tyres, underside etc so watch out, the policies you take independently usually include these.
When you pick up ostentatiously take photos of the car, inside, outside and the mileometer too. Have these in your hand when you return it. Good luck.
try doing it from the UK rather than locally - I've used this one in the past

http://www.autoeurope.co.uk/

and they've included everything, so you don't have demands for more money when you pick them up. (You'd need to check that this is still the case.) They're quoting from £200 or so for all February.
Firefly. Ignore the pretendy iPads on the wall, take a number and wait till you're called.
Cheap and cheerless, but cheap. :)

Oh, and leave plenty time to find the drop-off when you're done.
Don't go for which seems the cheapest. Try and find a supplier that offers full/full or bring back same on fuel. Buy your extra insurance in UK don't be pressured into buying the hire companies
It's a good idea to hire a car for your holiday. In my opinion, you should find few companies and compare prices and users scores. I can advise for you service rental24h.com . I used this service last summer when went on vacation to Austria. I got a good car with insurance in time. Good luck:)
