I didn't really know where to put this, but thought I'd try 'Travel'.

I just got back from holiday in Spain and noticed there were loads of trees in public parks etc with green oranges on them. I just wondered, when they ripen, is anyone allowed to pick them or do the local council pick them and sell them or something? Just curious; if anyone knows!

I can confirm they are inedible. Shame, really, they look so tempting
They are mentioned in “What Katy Did Next” as growing along the roadsides in Italy but very sour.
You could make marmalade with them perhaps !
I can remember picking some oranges, in a public park, in Athens, in about 1973, putting them into my back pack and looking for to a feast back at the Youth Hostel. What a shock lay in wait for me !

Thats a pity that they're inedible, I agree, they do look tempting. Thanks guys.
They're marmalade oranges obviously so are inedible in their raw state.
That`s why when you make marmalade with them, you use twice the sugar to the fruit (unlike other jam)
