Hello all,

Considering my holiday options for next year...Has anyone been to India backpacking or not in a tour group? I'm looking at doing the northern part of India, think Mumbai would be the lowest i would go as i only have 2 weeks.
What would you recommend i see?
Thanks!

Agra, japour, New Delhi, Gwalior, Jhansi. I also went to Cawnpore, now Kanpur, and Lucknow as I was interested in sites where the Indian mutiny happened.
Uttar Pradesh mostly. I hired a car and driver. He slept in the car. The further south I went the less English was understood.
Rajastan, Punjab - Amritsar. Himachal Pradesh - the area around Simla, McLeod Ganj is interesting and you are in the foothills of the Himalayas.
A fantastic journey is to start in Darjeeling, Sikkim, and travel through to Bhutan over the mountains.
If you go to Bhutan, make sure you get all of the necessary visas etc before you set off from the UK. It`s not an easy place to just turn up in (in fact I`m not sure you can just turn up there)
Have you thought about Sri Lanka? That is a really easy country to just turn up in and find your way around. Unlike India, you can see the whole place in two weeks
