Does anyone know if you can still buy a 'platform' at railway stations?
Got a friend coming coming over tomorrow and would like to meet her on the platform if possible.
Thank you.

Duh! platform ticket, not a platform...
National Rail's guidance for rail enthusiasts (a.k.a. 'train spotters') states "You may require a platform ticket to allow access to platforms"
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations_destinations/51952.aspx
so they're obviously still available in some places.

In practice though the staff at the ticket barriers are often quite flexible about letting people through to assist arriving passengers, even without a platform ticket. (Just ensure that you look for the same member of staff when you leave the platform, so that you don't get accused of having just travelled on a train without a ticket).
I'm not sure you can Nailit, although I can't be sure.
According to the answers given in 2013, shown below, platform tickets are no longer issued

She's not going to get lost at Stoke station, Nailit! Just wait for her in the foyer. :-)
........mind you, those two sets of stairs might cause a bit of a problem if your friend is anyway infirm.
We've always asked to be allowed through the barrier, if it's closed, to accompany our daughter, granddaughter and luggage to their train without a problem, that's at Peterborough. Other stations don't have any barriers.
^^^ Two sets of stairs?

I assume that you're referring to using the subway but there are also lifts up to the bridge:

Yes, Chris, I'm talking about the subway.

Tilly, just thought it would be nice to meet her straight of the train :-)
My relatives will be meeting me off the train next week, Nailit. I've never asked them if they've had to buy a platform ticket. :-)
Nailit, did you greet your friend off the train?
They used to be 1d each. You got them from a machine on the concourse. Mind, I'm going back nearly 60 years.
Tilly2, Nailit opened an Update thread earlier this evening.
