Netball - Avoiding The Sports Section - And Lacrosse World Cup
11 Answers
The Sports section seems a bit redundant now, so I'm just "chatting" about Netball.
Hey, I see that (note "chatty" tone of voice) ... Netball has been awarded £16.9m in Sports England funding, for the next four years?
Really? That's great! (continues "chatty" tone)
Ya, apparently it's now the UK's second highest funded sport, after Cycling. It gets more than twice as much as Tennis or Athletics.
So Sport England must have decided that Netball is a game that should be flying the flag for England in international sports?
Well, yes. I suppose Netball and Rugby are the only team games (oh, and the ladies Hockey team) in which England can compete among the best in the world.
So I suppose Netball will just continue to grow and grow? More TV coverage? Bigger audiences? Bigger sponsorship deals?
Netball is set to take over the world. Okay, not literally.
Oh, and just to give the whole Sporting thing another little boost ... don't forget that the Lacrosse World Cup is being hosted in Surrey in July. Obviously there will be match reports!

Going over to York Campus sports facility on Sunday to watch granddaughter playing her first match for her mum's club's junior team. Grandsprog is 11, but is playing for the under 13's. She's already 5'6" (well, she was when I saw her a couple of weeks ago - probably taller by now) so you don't get any prizes for guessing that she's the Goalkeeper.
I'm quite amazed that daughter regularly gets 'player of the match'. She's the oldest in the team by 10 years, but very, very fit (ex-heptathlete) and at 6' is also the goalie! :)

Chattily - U13's lost handsomely, but the U11's won 9 - 1 Yeeaaahhhh!
Was talking to the mother of the U11 shooter (got 2 v. good goals from the edge of the D) and she'd seen a match the day before where they had a 6'8" Shooter!
It was Mr. J2's 1st Netball match and he's on the way to being hooked. He can see, even through kiddies, how fast and tactical it is. So we'll be looking to attend daughter's Senior matches -tricky 'cos in the evening and it's a long way. :)
