Motorbike Stolen/recovered Due To Tracker...

I'm looking at buying a tracker for my motorcycle and not sure if it's even worth it. As I understand it, as soon as I report it to the police they will then inform the DVLA and there will then be a stolen marker on the vehicle.

Assuming the tracker works and the police successfully recover the motorbike, this marker will then change to stolen/recovered.

What i'm wondering is, will this marker affect my current and any future insurance cover on this vehicle? - Like if the vehicle was to be written off due to crash etc with the marker, would the insurance take the "marker" into consideration and pay less?

I would personally prefer to not make an insurance claim for theft, and would rather pay for repairs (if any) myself, to keep premiums down.

Tracker or no tracker, the DVLA will still be informed if you report the bike as stolen and the markers lodged against the reg number.

Much depends on how much the bike is worth and/or sought after by tealeaves.

Two of my friends have had bikes stolen, when they thought they were secure. The thieves simply lifted the bikes off the ground and onto the back of a truck.

If the fitted tracking device is only activated when the ignition is energised, and the bike has been stolen to dismantle for parts – the thieves may never start the bike (not having the ignition key).
